What Is a Double Fire Door?
A double door has two door leaves within one frame.
The two leaves may be equal or unequal in width, depending on the project design.
For some double-door configurations, one leaf is the active leaf used for normal operation, while the other is the inactive leaf and may use flush bolts or other specified hardware.
Depending on the project, double doors may also require additional hardware such as:
- Flush bolts
- Coordinator
- Astragal
- Separate closers for each leaf
The exact hardware should follow the approved project specifications, applicable code requirements, and the relevant product certification.

One Important Detail: How Is the Double-Door Size Divided?
If a drawing shows:
1800 × 2100 mm double door
the supplier still needs to know how the 1800 mm width is divided.

- 900 + 900 mm
- 1000 + 800 mm
- Another configuration specified by the project
Do not assume that every double door has two equal leaves.If the project identifies an active and inactive leaf, this should also be shown clearly.
